Here are some tips you may wish to consider when booking your venue and wedding band!
The party is a really important aspect of the day and any professional wedding band/DJ/supplier should easily be able to accommodate everything below! We are one of Hertfordshire's busiest wedding bands and will go above and beyond to make sure both you, your guests and the venue are happy with every aspect of our performance.
After all that's how we generate our business.
Is the venue suitable for live bands?
Does the venue have a stage?
Is there adequate power close by?
Does your marquee come with a stage or at least a flat aerator the band to setup and perform on?
Which bands do you recommend?
Most venues have a list of suppliers that have worked at the venue and know the staff and layout. They should also know what time to arrive, where to set up and who to speak to thus causing the least disruption.
Does the venue have a noise limiter?
Noise limiters are often installed at venues in residential areas to stop the volume getting out of control. Acoustic drums are usually the instrument hardest to control the volume of. We carry an acoustic kit and an electric kit making us suitable for all wedding venues, everywhere.
What time does the music need to be finished by?
Wedding venues have different music licenses and sometimes the live music has to finish earlier than the disco. Our solution is ALWAYS a party band AND live DJ. We always find out the curfew in advance and time our sets accordingly.
Live Music Considerations
Speak to the singer!
The singer is usually the reason a band is booked. Other instruments are more easily interchangeable. If you're communicating with the singer of the band, simply ask if they will be the one at your event. There are agencies and bands out there that simply put musicians together for the night. Our advice is to read the small print in the contract. When you book The Sam Lewis Band, you get Sam Lewis and a great band!
Leave it to the professionals!
A professional wedding band will have a large repertoire of material to draw from for your special occasion. An even better band will choose the right material at the right time. We ask you to choose a handful of MUST-HAVES, identify any NONOs and then select the best music for your guests on the night. We bring our party to yours...
Does the band have an electric drum-kit?
We carry an acoustic drum kit and an electric kit meaning we can perform at any wedding venue, turn down the entire volume but most importantly maintain the feel. Subsequently, we are invited back to perform at venues with limiters installed including 'The Priory Barn, Little Wymondley', 'Sheene Mill, Melbourne' and 'Milling Barn, Throcking'.

Q. Can we choose the ceremony songs?
A. Yes. You will need 4 songs in total. An entrance song, exit song and 2 songs for whilst you're signing the register.
I'm be happy to help you select the most appropriate songs.
Q. Can we choose the songs to be played by the band?
A. Yes. Please select a handful of MUST-HAVES, identify any NONOs
and then let us select the best music for your guests on the night.
Q. Can we select the songs to be played in the disco?
A. Yes. Please compile a playlist on Spotify or iTunes etc. and give it to us on a device on the day.
We will connect it to our P.A. System and mix it with our disco when you ask us to.
Alternatively, just let me play the best music and take requests on the night!
Q. Do you provide lighting?
A. Yes. We light the band and the stage area. This is enough to create an effective but not cheesy atmosphere. You may wish to speak to the venue about who they recommend to supply up-lighters and other venue decor.
